National Day of Volunteer Youth Ministry Training
On September 21, thousands of youth ministry volunteers across the country participated in the first ever National Day of Volunteer Youth Ministry Training. The morning was filled with a 2.5 hour digital training developed by Download Youth Ministry. The 8 different "TedTalk" style talks were given by renowned youth ministry speakers and included topics about helping parents win, the heart of a volunteer, new learnings on the adolescent brain, and practical help for hurting kids. The Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston's Youth, Young Adult, and Campus Ministry Office provided four host sites across the state of West Virginia in Huntington, Beckley, Charles Town, and Wheeling. While our office was excited to offer this training free of charge to anyone who works/volunteers at a Catholic Church in WV, several of the sites had local protestant churches attend the training as well and join the dialogue about best practices in youth ministry. Mark your calendars: Download Youth Ministry has already released the date for 2020: September 19, 2020! Our office will send out more information on how to get registered for the 2020 training at a later time and until then, check out the Resource Toolbox for additional resources offered by Download Youth Ministry.
Fall Family Day
Families from across the diocese joined us earlier this month at the Mary Help of Christians Pastoral Center for Fall Family Day, a day devoted to allowing families to have fun and grow closer together. It was great to see many Camp Bosco families back on property as well as many new faces here enjoying all the retreat facility in Huttonsville has to offer. The climbing wall, swing by choice, zipline, canoes, archery, barn yard, and slingshots were open throughout the day. Families also had the opportunity to take a hay wagon ride over to the pumpkin patch and pick out pumpkins to take home with them. Several families took advantage of the many hiking trails and some even tried their luck at catching a fish in the lake. New to this year's Fall Family Day: homemade funnel cakes which were delicious! We are thankful for all the families who joined us for Family Day this fall and look forward to seeing many others as our team travels around the state this winter.
